I have been a Volunteer at the Fraser Coast Hospice since 2023. It is a great organisation to work for and allows me to offer the knowledge I have in a healthcare setting to help clients and their families when nearing end of life stages.

Volunteer Roles

Front Reception – greeting & directing visitors, answering the telephone, recording mail in and mail out and other reception duties.

Administration – accounts and typing.

Housekeeping – keeping the guest area clean and comfortable for clients and their families.

Kitchen – preparing meals for clients.

Gardening and Maintenance – assist to keep our grounds looking beautiful so that clients and their families enjoy their surrounds.

Courier – deliver and pick up around the local area.

Fundraising – raising the vital funds that we need to continue to offer our service to the community.

Pastoral Care – a specially trained team of volunteers providing emotional and spiritual support for clients and their families.

Having worked as a volunteer at the Toowoomba Hospice, I didn't hesitate to join the team at the new Fraser Coast Hospice and once again work for Alicia, the Director of Care. Working for the Hospice is a privilege knowing that you are part of a facility that gives specialised care to clients and ensures families receive the support needed when a loved one is lost. All involved at the Hospice endeavour to make clients, families and friends feel comfortable and at home and not in a sterile institution during those precious final days. One quickly becomes a member of the Hospice family, so volunteering there is a joy not a chore.

Involvement as a volunteer with the Fraser Coast Hospice began in 2023. I have been volunteering for approximately 6 months. I have met many clients and families from different cultures and backgrounds and being there contribute in many ways to support them in their end of life journey. I find this very rewarding and enjoy how the staff and volunteers come together as a team.

I retired to the Fraser Coast in March 2022, by May I was part of the volunteer complement at the Hospice. I find that knowing my contribution enables the clinical staff to spend more time caring for our loved ones and their families at an emotion time, is very rewarding.

Feeling good about the world is easy when you're surrounded by people who enjoy making a positive difference. I have found those people whilst volunteering at Fraser Coast Hospice. I personally get so much out of being useful and this vital community facility gives me the chance to help others on a daily basis.
