Inpatient Palliative Care

Compassionate care during life's final chapter

When You Need More Support

Sometimes caring at home becomes more than families can manage alone. When symptoms need specialist attention, when everyone is exhausted, or when you're looking for more support than home care can provide. That's when Fraser Coast Hospice is here to help.

We provide dignified, peaceful palliative care close to home, completely free when families are already facing so much. Our focus is on comfort, symptom management, and giving families space to be together without the weight of medical care falling on your shoulders.

What You Can Expect from Our Care

It's genuinely fee-free. No gap payments, no surprise bills. The only costs families face are medications (just like you'd buy from any pharmacy) and any specialist tests your doctor orders. Everything else – our nursing care, the room, meals, family support – is covered by a combination of community generosity and government funding.

You're still in control. Your own GP can coordinate your care if they're credentialled with us, or we'll help you find a doctor who works well with our team. This is about supporting your choices, not replacing them.

Family-centred approach. No visiting hours. Come and go as feels right. Stay overnight. Bring favourite foods, personal clothes, whatever brings comfort. We welcome beloved pets to visit too, because we understand they're family. We're here to preserve relationships and create meaningful time together.

Comprehensive support. Our specially trained team understand that caring for someone with a terminal illness means supporting the whole family.

Who Can Access Our Care

Every adult over 18 with a terminal illness on the Fraser Coast can access our 6-bed facility.

We're here for people in their final days and weeks, offering specialised palliative care designed around comfort and dignity. Guests stay with us for short periods while we focus on end of life care and symptom management, and creating space for families to focus on being together.

Our facility sits on beautiful grounds in a setting that prioritises warmth and tranquillity – a place designed for comfort and connection.

Voluntary Assisted Dying

Fraser Coast Hospice does not provide voluntary assisted dying services. If you wish to access voluntary assisted dying, we will help you to do this. For some parts of the process you may need to be transferred to and from another place, so you can access voluntary assisted dying. We will facilitate this transfer if it is needed and ensure it does not impact your care or condition.

Fraser Coast Hospice will continue providing other medical care and treatment to people who are accessing voluntary assisted dying.

Pets are welcome.

We know that beloved pets are family too. Dogs visit regularly, and we're happy to accommodate other pets as well. The comfort and joy a pet can bring during this time is something we absolutely understand and encourage.
