Keeping Connected

Beard. Hair. Harley. All For Hospice Care: A Birthday Celebration to Remember

31 Oct 2025

The rumble of Harleys, the snip of scissors, the roar of community support. Our Beard. Hair. Harley. event wasn't just a fundraiser, it was a celebration of everything that makes the Fraser Coast special. And together, you helped us raise an incredible $5,000 for hospice care!

A Community Comes Together

As Fraser Coast Hospice marked our 4th birthday month, we wanted to do something uniquely 'us', something that captured the spirit of generosity and courage that defines our community. What we got was beyond our wildest expectations.

The day began with the thunder of motorcycles as riders departed from the hospice at 11am, creating a convoy that turned heads all the way to Hervey Bay Hotel. The sight of those Harleys rolling in, led by Joe who would later bravely face the clippers himself, set the tone for an afternoon filled with heart, humour, and genuine community connection.

Courage in Action

At the heart of the day were Huxley, Nevan, Amanda, and Joe. Huxley and Joe didn't just help organise this meaningful event, they led by example. Joe, Huxley, and Nevan said goodbye to their beards and hair, whilst Amanda made the generous decision to cut off her long locks for donation. For this family and their friend, the event held deep personal significance, honouring someone they loved whilst helping ensure others receive the compassionate care they deserve.

Denise Eaton of Denise's Snip and Kliptz (Burrum Heads) brought professional skill and warmth to every cut and shave, helping turn acts of courage into contributions that matter.

The Hervey Bay Hotel proved to be the perfect host, not only providing the venue but also generously donating $1 from every schooner sold. Live music kept spirits high, raffles added excitement, and the atmosphere buzzed with the kind of warmth that can only come from a community truly united in purpose.

Capturing the Moments That Matter

Dan Filmer was there to document it all, his camera capturing not just the event itself but the essence of what makes our community extraordinary. The laughter, the brave faces before the shave, the camaraderie among riders, the genuine care in every interaction. These images will remind us for years to come of what we can achieve together.

What It All Means

Four years ago, Fraser Coast Hospice opened its doors because our founder Jasine Leslie believed everyone deserves dignified end-of-life care. Events like Beard. Hair. Harley. prove she was right to believe in this community's capacity for compassion.

That $5,000 will help provide home-cooked meals, specialist nursing care, and the peaceful environment that allows families to be families again, not just carers. It will help us continue offering fee-free care to anyone over 18 facing terminal illness in our community.

Thank You

To Huxley, Nevan, Amanda, and Joe for your incredible courage and generosity. To every rider who joined the convoy, to Denise for your styling skills, to Hervey Bay Hotel for your wonderful support, to our staff and volunteers who made it all run smoothly, and to every single person who donated, attended, or cheered us on: you've shown what community truly means.

Here's to four years of care, and to many more years of serving our Fraser Coast community together.
