Some appointments are professional milestones. Others run deeper, touching the very heart of why an organisation exists. Welcoming Ted Sorensen as Patron of Fraser Coast Hospice is undoubtedly the latter.
A Life of Service
Ted needs little introduction to our community. As a Hervey Bay local, long-time farmer, former Mayor, and State Member for Hervey Bay, he has spent decades working to strengthen and support the Fraser Coast region. His commitment to this community is woven into the fabric of who we are as a region.
But Ted's connection to Fraser Coast Hospice goes beyond his impressive record of public service.
A Personal Understanding
Ted's beloved wife, Jenny, spent her final days in our care. He witnessed firsthand what compassionate, dignified end-of-life care means for families during their most vulnerable moments. He understands the relief that comes from knowing your loved one is comfortable, peaceful, and surrounded by genuine care. He knows the difference it makes when families can simply be families again, not carers carrying an impossible weight.
This lived experience brings a depth to his role as Patron that we couldn't have anticipated but are profoundly grateful for.
Moving Forward Together
Having Ted's voice and presence guiding our mission is both an honour and a comfort. His understanding of our community, combined with his personal connection to our work, will help us continue providing the fee-free, compassionate care that every terminally ill adult in our region deserves.
Please join us in welcoming Ted to this important role. In honouring his appointment, we also honour Jenny's memory and the countless families who have found peace within our walls.
Together, we continue caring for our community with dignity, compassion, and heart.

With thanks to Dan Filmer, who donates his time to capture and share the heart and soul of our facility and events.
